Over at SFRA.org, I have reposted my “Scholarly Research and Writing 101,” which originally appeared as Karen Hellekson, “Scholarly Research and Writing 101,” SFRA Review 292 (Spring 2010): 4–8. A PDF of the entire issue is available from the main SFRAR download page here. This document is an overview and assessment of freeware tools used by researchers in the humanities.
SFRA is currently conferring with various authors of the 101 series (instituted by me and my SFRA Review coeditor, Craig Jacobsen, during our most recent tenure as editors) to obtain permission to put up full text. The 101 series is designed to provide an overview of a field of interest to SFRA’s membership, which comprises academics, librarians, and fans of SF/F literature. Past 101s have included science studies, mundane literature, comics, and the new weird.
